I've been thinking a lot about Brand Personality lately. It is one of those things that may or may not be defined for a brand, but ultimately has a tremendous impact on how a brand visually expresses itself. For a new brand, defining Brand Personality is a daunting task as there is no right or wrong answer, everything is possible and the possibilities are endless. For existing brands, redefining Brand Personality requires sensitivity to where the brand has been and where the brand wants to go. While intentions may be good, sometimes a brand's personality is so deeply rooted in our cultural subconscious that it is impossible to change.

It's been awhile since I picked up a brush, a piece of charcoal or looked closely at the surface texture of a canvas and water color paper, wondering, anticipating how paint and gesso will react to it. How it will transform it. How if I applied a bit more water to the medium, it will have a certain desired outcome or affect. Conversely, if the brush is too dry or does not carry enough paint, the stroke will not be fluid and I will not be able to finish a continuous thought without having to double back; and by doing so, the affect will seem labored, not spontaneous, if not less pure.
